There are federal, local public and state benefits that are given for the citizens of the United States and the immigrants who have a permanent residence in the US. Medicaid is also offered to the legal immigrant families who hold immigrant visa, legal immigrants who have completed 5 years of residence in the U.S., to refugees, to the veterans who have served in the military, their spouses and dependents and also to the citizens who are involved in active military services and also to SSI recipients.

SCHIP or State Children’s Insurance Program is offered to the legal immigrant children who hold immigrant visa and also to children of refugees and the veterans who have served in the military and also to the children of citizens who are involved in active military services.

SSI is a federal program for people with low income is offered to the legal immigrant families who hold immigrant visa and to legal immigrants who have completed 5 years of residence in the U.S., to refugees, the veterans who have served in the military, their spouses and dependents and also to the citizens who are involved in active military services.

Availing the above immigrant benefits is subject to inspection of all the legal immigrant certificates and appropriate income proof by the applicant. The immigrant benefits are also governed by the year of immigration and the number of years of residence after immigration, which varies with each programs and amended laws which can be clarified regarding applicable rules when one applies for it.
