Applying for a US passport can be rather difficult if you do not have the required documentation. If you have already had one previously then renewal is not as complicated. The US Passport requires 2 identical photos that are given by the specification requested by the U.S. government. The needed documents to apply are:
Application for Passport
Proof of citizenship
Present proof of Identity
Two Identical Passport photos
Pay the Passport and associated fees
Provide the social security number
When applying you must give them your application for passport in person! Then they will require that you provide the other necessary documents. Proof of citizenship is birth certificate or certificate of naturalization. The Proof of present Identity requires that you show valid current U.S Identification or a previous passport.
To give them the two identical photos they must meet the requirements for additional fees you can have the photos taken there while applying. Your social security card must be shown at the time of applying if you do not show your social security number the IRS may impose a $500 dollar penalty on you.
If you are bringing children/minors with you and require their passports you must have the consent of both legal parents/ legal guardians. That will be required at the time of applying. Children ages 14-17 must be present at the time of returning application. All fees will be required for all persons applying at that time.
Getting your passport is initially difficult the first time but make sure that you have all documents needed and filled out to the best of your ability the first time this will make the initial visit quicker and smoother.
Having all parties present at the time of application will give you less delay. You can expedite the process by paying a higher fee. This will get the application sent in and returned much faster.
