Passport Renewals and Updates

The U.S. passport issued by the United States Department of State has a validity period and an expiry date. It should be renewed and information contained in it should be verifiable. Any change in information like change in name, address, credentials etcetera should be amended in the passport by DS-5504 form. Expired passports create port of entry issues. You can use form DS-82 for renewal of passport about to expire.

Passport Renewals and Updates would require DS-82 for renewal along with form DS-5504 to update any change. The enclosures to be included are:-
Copy of old passport.
Two identical photographs per rules of photography.
Processing fee.
Original copy of the legal document that certifies your name change such as marriage certificate, divorce decree, adoption decree, or court order.

Passport Renewals and Updates can be done either through an expediting service or by direct approach. The former process involves expeditors who would get your job done in 3 or 4 days for a nominal service charge. It is better to seek an expeditor because they can process the work fast.

Alternately, you can do Passport Renewals and Updates by yourself by going through pages 1 and 2 of the passport application and filling in page 3 correctly; though page 4 has nothing to do with filling any data it has legal instructions required by the processing office. So you must submit the page 3 and 4 of you DS-82 and submit it along with DS-5504 in case you have any updates along with other documents

A person is punishable under section 1543 of title 22 of the US code if found having mutilated or manipulated U.S. passport. Passport Renewals and Updates are very mandatory especially in the case of green card holders and U.S. citizenship by naturalization because when they intend to travel abroad they require a valid passport for filing parole for time extension; some may even hold dual citizenship passport renewals and updates are needed to avoid related issues.

Passport Renewals and Updates can be done with DS-82 and DS-5504 forms:-
Submit your old passport for renewal (or) the passport which was issued to you 15 years before (or) your passport which was granted when you were under 16 years of age.

However if you do not require renewal you can just use DS-5504 or if you do not require updates you can use DS-82 only.
