Green Card Lottery

The US Department of State organizes the green card lottery to enable immigration of people from select countries that show low migration of its population into the United States. There is a common confusion relating to people believing that the green card lottery is organized by the USCIS, but the fact is that the green card lottery is being organized by the US Department of State and not the USCIS.

The diversity immigrant visa program is congressionally approved and organized as per the requirements of Section 203(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. The program offers to allow 50,000 immigrants from countries of low rates of immigration to the United States if they qualify in the lottery draw. Millions of applications flood in for the Diversity Program; however, just 50,000 qualifying applicants are allowed to obtain a green card through this program.

The advantages of green card lottery are:-
The green card lottery winners, if they qualify in the final interview at the USCIS, are granted the green card without having to fulfill the minimum requirements by living as a non-immigrant in the US for the prescribed period of time. The winners are totally bypassed from requiring the cycle of minimum non-immigrant physical presence in the US and are given the green card directly, if they qualify in the interview at the USCIS following the lottery draw.
In a single lottery draw the applicant winner qualifying in the final interview at the USCIS can bring in his family members included in the application when they come to the US. Thus, the green card lottery minimizes the extra time and work that others would have to undergo to bring in their family by applying for separate visas.
The green card lottery program is organized without any application or processing fee.
The applicant does not require any call petition or sponsorship from any permanent resident or US citizen to participate in the green card lottery program.

The other side of Green card lottery program:-
Only those green card lottery winners who qualify in the final interview at the USCIS will receive a green card.
Sponsorship is not needed to participate in the lottery program.
The winners should have enough funds as required to appear for the final interview at the USCIS.
The winners should have enough funds in the form of sponsorship or self resource that is required to ultimately receive the green card.

Apart from the lottery draw, the rest of the proceedings cannot be done without the applicant having enough sponsorship or self funding resources as required by green card regulations.
