US citizenship is a legal membership acquired by birth in the US or by being born to parents who are US citizens or by the process of naturalization. US citizenship allows the citizen to cast vote to elect the political frame of the constitution. The US government offers full protection and many welfare benefits to the US citizen. All descendants of US citizens are naturally legal members of the United States’ political constitution and can enjoy US citizenship rights without immigration checks.
A Green card is a status that allows the lawful permanent resident to stay indefinitely in the United States. Unlike US Citizens, green card holders cannot cast votes in the political polls that decide the government.
With green card holders, there is an associated risk of deportation if the LPR is convicted with criminal charges. However, a US Citizenship does not allow deportation of the citizen.
The green card holder does not have the right to file lawsuits and claims against government decisions. US citizenship empowers one to file lawsuits against the government decisions.
US citizens enjoy full benefits of the government plans like social security benefits, food stamps, educational benefits, job priorities insurance and such. Though green card holders also enjoy many of these merits there are partial variations.
US citizens can get a US passport or travel document whereas a green card holder cannot aquire a US passport for travel. They will have to travel with the passport of their original country.
The interest rates for loans are comparatively higher for green card holders than for people with US citizenship.
US citizens qualify to travel to select treaty countries without the need for a visa, but green card holders require a visa to travel if their original citizenship is not from one of the treaty countries.
US citizens can hold positions in the political system, but green card holders cannot hold positions in the political system.
Employment priority is given to US citizens in most cases when compared to those for green card holders.
Though there are some variations between a US citizenship benefits and green card holders, it is possible for a green card holder to establish US citizenship by naturalization. After such green card holders can graduate to citizenship and enjoy every merit of a US citizen without any kind of discrimination for being citizens due to naturalization.
