Diversity Visa

The diversity visa program is being organized by the US Department of State every fiscal year to make permanent residence visas available to people from select countries, which has very low immigration rates per year. About 50,000 green cards are made available to diversity visa winners who qualify in the interview at the USCIS.

Millions of electronic applications are being accepted per year for this lottery draw. A random draw of the electronic applications is made and any application that does not meet with the simple and basic eligibility norms is rejected. Multiple applications can also lead to disqualification. No applicants from countries which have an immigration rate of more than 50,000 immigrants per year to the US are accepted for the Diversity Visa.

The diversity visa winners list is selected from within 6 geographic locations; however, major selection is from the countries with low immigration rates. Of the 50,000 diversity visa for the 6 geographic regions 7% is applicable equally to each location. Every region may not receive more than 7% of the applicable number limit.

The diversity visa application can cover a whole family in a single application form including the applicant, the spouse and unmarried children less than 21 years of age. The digital photograph that is to be submitted for the diversity visa should be carefully taken. Any manipulated digital photograph in the application form that does not comply with the photo regulations of the diversity visa program will be rejected. The photograph rules for the diversity visa are similar to the requirement for the US passport. Submitting the photographs of all the family members is important. Failure to submit photographs of children or any of the people willing to have a green card can also lead to rejection of the application form.

The only way to participate in the DV program is to submit an E-DV form in the website of the US Department of State. Several people are being scammed to submit hard copies of application forms through so called agents. The US Department of State has no appointed agents to collect the application forms. Any applicant is supposed to submit the electronic Diversity Visa form only and nothing else.

Another popular rumor is that one does not require money to get a green card via Diversity Visa Program. That is absolutely false. You do not need money only for participating in the DV lottery draw, the rest is impossible without money. Every session that follows the draw ranging from the interview at the USCIS through getting the green card requires money!
